The help of students – and four -legged

The idea of creating a cottage was born to Violeta Stumbrienė, teachers of the Aukuro Gymnasium, when, before Christmas last year, « Be My Friend » a fire broke out to kill cats and dogs.

So it was decided to take help – build huts.

« I am the author of this idea. Just before Christmas, ‘Be My Friend’ was a disaster when a wagon burned down. And our gymnasium was organizing a Christmas fair before Christmas, collecting a thousand euros and taking it to the shelter. Then I saw the animal way outside and I came up with an idea. I asked the employee and she confirmed that they needed everything right now. You want to teach students things that would not be just by the program, but to get the skills to create something, do it, ”said Stumbrienė.

According to her, with the approval of the director of the gymnasium, other responsible staff, the eleventh and twelfth graders undertook the production of the houses during the lessons.

We are delighted with this idea and are pleased that the students understand it.

Everyone who wanted to contribute, and about 20 of them were made. The materials were taken care of by the teachers.

« A total of five huts were made, we brought them all. One was small, we thought it would be suitable for a little puppy, but when we took it to the shelter, he said that kittens were very suitable. The huts were neat, one even with porch, » Stumbrienė said, adding:

From September this year, the initiative is planned to continue with the new school year, especially if even more people willing to do so.

« Since September, we are planning to continue this initiative and make more huts. The students have been very happy, but they were very shocked. Said that the man has everything and the dogs have nothing, they throw them away, they refuse them, and it is brutal.

The project « Civic Initiative in the Klaipėda Region » daily « Klaipeda » 2025 is partially funded by the Media Support Fund. EUR 6,000.
