The hatred that we don’t want to see
An acquittal for that 61-year-old Starnberger, who would like to put the doctor and vaccination supporter Lisa-Maria Kellermayr in front of a « folk tribunal », a « creature » like her who wrote her by email, you « watch »-and who argued on Wednesday with « fear of vaccination ». Yes, he himself had psychological problems during pandemic, precisely because he was afraid of vaccination, he had to compensate with “activism”. He very much regretted the suicide of Kellermayrs, said the small business owner from Bavaria, who process had silent about, then to court.
His acquittal will be taken in the Coronaleugner scene, which the defendant undoubtedly belonged or belonged to, will surely be taken with satisfaction. Observers had expected such a judgment like this: a direct, causal connection between the defendant’s threatening emails, for whom he had never expressed a word of regret, and the doctor’s suicide, was not provable for the judge and the two lay judges. From a legal perspective, the view of the court may be conclusive, the judges’ considerations are understandable.
Process for threatening letter writers: Vulnerability of the victim counts too little
The trial against Roman M. shows something else: In public discussion, what conspiracy ideologists, right-wing extremists and other hate offenders do is less than the question of the victim’s vulnerability. The health state of Kellermayr was rolled out in all details in front of the press during the four -day process in Wels. In many cases, Kellermayr was advised to withdraw from the public, that was one of the observations that could be taken from the process, can be read in newspaper reports: Friends of the doctor would have recommended this and told her that the threatening letter writers were only « mouth heroes ». The well-known psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner also said in her witness questioning that she got Kellermayr at a distance that the threatening mail writers were « sadists » that should not be « fed », she told the doctor.
The process in Wels is primarily a lesson on the complexity of suicidality, the difficulties that exist for relatives, friends, employees of those affected as well as for their caring doctors and psychiatrists, to prevent possible actions, about silence and taboo. He is a reflection of the discussions that were removed immediately after the death of Kellermayr in so -called social networks: that such a suicide is said to be no wonder if someone was « mentally unstable before before.
Kellermayr process is a reflection of society
The process is therefore also a reflection of a society that prefers to look at a possible coatality on the part of the victims than on the aggression, which comes from conspiracy and right -wing extremists. Those who were involved in the process now know a lot about Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, about what was going on in her head. We now know exactly about her years of suffering, about her fears, about the most intimate details of her medical history, about how and when she tried to take her life several times and also about how she finally succeeded. We do not know what was going on in the head of a 61-year-old who wanted to put a doctor in front of a « folk tribunal » because she publicly talked about vaccination. The four days in Wels have not helped the discussion of what we all want to and can – apart from criminal law – against such irrational hatred.
