The grief after the triple murder in Uppsala: « So this community now looks »

The flower bouquets are placed on high and warm lights form the words « rest in peace » on the sidewalk next to Vaksala square in central Uppsala. It has started to rain and the wind causes the trees to wain a lot – but still new groups of young people who visit the place for the brutal tragedy that took place at a hairdressing salon a few meters away when people were on their way home from their work on Tuesday.

The grief is evident in four girls aged 15. One of them tells with tears in their eyes that one of the dead was their friend and then turns his eyes down in silence. A guy gang joins the site and seems strongly affected by the moment.

A guy in high school age stands Alone a bit away. He says that at first he could not believe that his friend, a 16-year-old boy, was one of the deceased in the shooting. There were many friends who tried to call the 16-year-old on Tuesday night-but without success. Now he stands and sees Blomberget grow as mourners want to show his participation.

– I wanted to see it myself, says the guy.

The guy seems abandoned about the situation. He is awkwardly aware of the brutal violence that has spread in society in recent years, and sighs loudly.

– Before I am 30, ten of my friends will be dead. This is what society looks like now, he says.

A few hours later takes Yaser Abu Jheisheh, chairman of the Islamic Association in Uppsala, against us in Uppsala mosque.

Yaser Abu Jheisheh tells him that he is a friend of one of the killed father.

He has just visited the school that one of the dead boys went in and talked to students. The night before, he was in a memory which took place in the mosque – an event that had become very emotional.

– Dad is a friend of mine. He talked about how his son used to spread joy and was always kind and behaved. He recently got a job at McDonalds and looked forward to working there. He was a caring boy, says Yaser Abu Jheisheh.

A moment later, the Friday prayer begins and the mosque will be replenished to the rupture limit. The atmosphere is worthy and calm when the imam begins to preach on the topic of the day: abstinence from drugs.

Large support at the Friday prayer in Uppsala mosque.

Yaser Abu Jheisheh gives his Interpretation of the message.

– It’s about taking care of each other. It’s about contacting parents and adults if you get into problems, he says.

Later in the afternoon, Blomberget outside the murder scene at the hairdressing salon has grown further. At the same time, the weather has worsened: storm villages tear in the hair and clothes, the rain has started to pour down – and suddenly turns into hail that brutally strikes over the memorial site.

But the young people remain.
