The history of the Great Guild began in the 13th century with a space located in the basement below the present Munster hall. A year ago, in July 2024, the Great Guild closed its doors to visitors, and its long -awaited rebuilding began. This year, Ilmārs Dirveika conducted an architecturally artistic supervision to record new information on the building history of the building. Larger building repairs were known to take place in the late 17th and mid -18th century. The reconstruction of architect Zane Korol’s rebuilding in the 21st century is a tribute to the 19th century of Karl Bein – looking at Gothic Towns in Germany and Belgium, where ancient forms are implemented in new contemporary materials. The architect wanted to connect the historic with the modern, intending the building’s luxurious metal Gothic roof/ceiling, but due to financial obstacles it was made of wood.

« Today, this vision takes on a new breath. The interior of the Great Hall, designed as a metal mesh roof, embodies a long -dormant idea – the spirit of 19th century and the beauty lost in the fire. Modern materials become a bridge between the past and the present, allowing the ancient idea to return.

In the Great Hall, the 1965 structures revealed the remains of the neo -Gothic interior of the 19th century, which is currently being decided with acoustic solutions. Integration, taking into account the amount of findings and cultural and historical value, is considered to be a permanent place of exposure that will also be visited by visitors to the great guild of the future. « 

An interesting novelty in the building’s history is a medieval aila with a spinning arch in the wall of Munster hall. Nothing mentioned in the 1964 study reports is not mentioned as a peculiar space in the Munster hall and bride’s ventricle, although it is depicted in the plan of the hall. It is planned to invest around EUR 16.2 million (with VAT) in the implementation of the Great Guild Development Project.
