The government launches new action plan: deals with large group of Danes

Today, the government launches the fifth Danish national action plan on women, peace and security. With the action plan, Denmark will strengthen the efforts of women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in the work for peace and security.

It writes the Foreign Ministry in one press release.

Denmark was the first country in the world to prepare a national action plan for women, peace and security (WPS) in 2005. Since then, three additional action plans followed in 2008, 2014 and 2019. But there is still a lot of work to do. Women’s participation in peace processes is far from realized. At the same time, research shows that peace processes involving women are more durable. The level of conflict is the highest since World War II, and violence against women in conflict has increased. Challenges are aggravated by climate change, economic inequality and authoritarian regimes.

« Working with women, peace and security is a brand case for Denmark as a member of the UN Security Council. With the new action plan, Denmark goes ahead and strengthens the work to ensure the basic security of women and girls and the right to participate in peace and security efforts. An agenda that unfortunately more than ever requires long-term commitment, political will and concrete action, » says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

The number of ministerial areas participating in the action plan has doubled since the latest action plan, which further emphasizes the strong Danish commitment to the agenda.

“The effort for women, peace and security constitutes an important area of focus in the Ministry of Defense’s group. In addition to increasing the operational efficiency of Danish military contribution to peace and security, the implementation of gender perspectives in our domestic structure also provides great value to the entire organization. It is important that we constantly reflect on national efforts and continuously work to improve the implementation of WPS Day to strengthen women’s representation in defense in defense, increasing women’s representation, increasing women’s representation in the reign, Equality and ensure the handling of gender -related challenges, ”says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

« Women and girls’ rights must be protected – even when the world’s focal points are hit by conflict. Denmark has an obligation to fight for justice and equality, and of course it must also be a key element of our police efforts in international missions. With the new action plan, we take another important step in that direction, » says Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard.
