The government decided to make everyone equally

In one of the underground garages in Vilnius, up to 10 sq. M. m costs about 20 thousand. euros. This is not the highest price, after a new construction of apartment buildings in the center of Vilnius, the parking space can cost as much as the apartment in a smaller city.

« There may be about 40,000 in the city’s central, really special places. Yes, parking spaces are not cheap, » said Marius Čiulada, head of the Old Town Old Town office of Ober-Haus.

The Minister of Finance, who manages public money, heard the first time about such prices.

« The place is more than 20 thousand? » Asked the Minister of Finance.

R. Šadžius answered the claim that in Vilnius is so expensive in Vilnius, « Really? You real? »

R. Šadžius to the statement that real estate brokers responded so, said, « I don’t know, I didn’t talk to them. »

Minister Šadžius told News Radio Thursday morning that parking spaces in underground garages costing more than 20,000. should be charged with additional real estate tax. This means that the resident would have to pay two taxes – one for the dwelling and the other at the parking space.

« The place of parking, if it is a separate property of the property, or a separately standing garage, it is yes – it is an additional property that would be taxed on the second scale, » Shadius told News Radio.

« Let’s say if the assets of EUR 30,000, it would be 10 euros a year – we would already be collecting that amount, » the Minister of Finance told News Radio.

A few hours later, LNK Šadžius spoke differently for LNK news.

« What did I say? When? When? I never said that the parking spaces would be taxed, » the Minister of Finance explained.

When trying to find out why the minister’s opinion changed, he replied, « You think I’m a legal advice, or what? »

However, the residents of the big cities have to pay taxes for the parking space they have bought, the mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas also heard.

« If the Seimas adopts such a taxation floor – for the second property of 20 thousand, the vast majority of the value of that tax will be applied to the big cities in this case, » the Mayor of Vilnius said.

The mayor knows the prices of the Vilnius market and understands that the parking space in part of the capital’s underground garages can cost tens of thousands.

« It must be understood that in the context of Vilnius city, practically all parking lots, greenhouses, pantries and other objects belonging to the apartments will be charged, the tax burden will be much more significant, » Benkunskas assured.

The mayor promises to try to claim that storage, garages and parking spaces are not considered to be additional real estate objects so that they do not have to pay taxes. The municipalities have talked about this with the government before.

« The government has not heard our comments and decided to travel more brutally and to get everyone equally, » Benkunskas said.

According to the minister, additional taxes will only affect the residents of the cities, but rural barns and pantries will not be calculated as separate real estate objects.

« There, let’s say, a barn standing next to it – I think that the price of that homestead, like such, would certainly depend, so that we would not have to count very small objects separately, » the Minister of Finance said.

The taxes proposed by the Minister of Finance will be considered by the Seimas. Juozas Olekas, Vice -President of the Parliament, said earlier that they could be changed in the Seimas unless minimal.
