The Government approved the proposal of the new Information Security Act
The Government has today approved the proposal for a new Information Security Act, with which it also wants to strengthen the national system based on the European Directive cyber security.
The goals are the transfer of a sectoral European directive to the Slovenian Legal Order and to strengthen and further develop the capacity of Slovenian Cyber Defense, which have already been set out in the 2018 law, director of the Government Information Security Office said at a press conference after the government session Uroš Svete.
In accordance with the Directive, the expansion of taxpayers, who must take measures to ensure cyber security, are envisaged, so that they will be subjects to both the public sector and the economy.

Taxpayers will, among other things, have to prepare a risk assessment and plans for managing cyber incidents. « On the one hand, they will have to arrange for themselves the field of information technologies management, and on the other, if such the nature of the process, they will also require it from suppliers or external partners, » said Svete.
For a faster response and less harm
According to him, the law will be an important step towards a better detection of cyber incidents and to respond faster to them, and especially to significantly less economic damage caused by cyber incidents in recent years in Slovenia and other countries.
« We believe that, given all the experiences we have gained in recent years, when cyber space has become important in geopolitical terms, the law will further increase cooperation and mastery of cyber incidents and crises in Slovenia and EU, » he said.
