The Germans too little work? – The world
Politicians in Germany who seek to the people are working now now received an additional argument in the form of a new study. It shows that the Germans do less than almost all developed nations in the world.
In 2023. year, the population in Germany (15 to 64 years of age) worked on average 1,036 working hours, stated in the study published by the Institute of Germany’s economy (IW), close to employers.
Compared to all 38 member states of the Group of Organizations for European Cooperation and Development, which belong to the economic strong nation, Germany thus found themselves in the third place from behind.
Less hours than in Germany was recorded only in France (1,027) and Belgium (1,021), stands in the study. It was mostly in New Zealand (about 1,402 working hours), then in Czech Republic (1,326) and Israel (1,312).
At all times, 2023. worked more than ten years ago: 2013. It was about 1,013 working hours per capita in the working age. But that is the growth of only about two percent.
In other European countries, the number of working hours has increased significantly in the last ten years: in Spain by 15 percent, in Greece by 21 percent, and in Poland for 23 percent.
The Germans should work more
The question of how many Germans are also having political weight: the new Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merc (CDU) said the citizens must work more.
Namely, Germany still has a serious problem with a lack of labor. As one of the solutions, the abolition of one public holiday is mentioned.
And the President of IW Mihael Hiter was in a statement for Bild, « We feel the lack of professional workforce every day: Restaurants are more often closed than, caregivers are overwhelmed because they have too few colleagues. »
By the end of the decade, he will expire, in Germany, « lack about 4.2 billion working hours ».
Increase women’s employment
The Federal Minister of Labor Berbel BAS (SPD) in this context has sent appeal to employers during the weekend: they must offer better working conditions in order to particularly increase women’s employment.
« Any additional workforce and each additional working hour lead us forward, » said Minister.
She added that there are women in Germany « that find themselves in a part-time trap, but not with their own will. » They want to do more, but can’t reason for somewhere in children’s kindergartens and full-time stays in schools or due to working conditions that are not adapted to the family.
According to the Minister Bass, in Germany, only 11 percent of men are doing less than full-time, while in women there is 49 percent.
Increase in general number of working hours
IW recommends that people who work with part-time generally need to increase the number of working hours. In 2023. About 30 percent of employees worked in Germany, while in Italy, it was about 18 percent, according to IW, and in Poland only six percent.
In addition, too little Germans are working to the legal age limit for retirement. If the policy wishes to work again in Germany again, must « remove the wrong incentives like a pension from 63 years, » IW requires.
