The garbage mountains are growing along the streets of Birmingham – now the Labor government is increasing the press on the union
Insert the military.
It wants parts of the opposition that the Labor government should do in Birmingham, where two meters of sopberg now border the streets in many places and large rats party on the run.
Thousands of Birminghambor desperately wonder what to do about their garbage.
– Why is the government not asking the army to help local aid organizations and others trying to clear up? asks MP Ayoub Khan, himself from Birmingham.
So far, the government has not wanted to go yet.
But the question becomes increasingly sensitive for the Labor government, which is now increasing the pressure on the cleaning workers. The police have previously had orders not to intervene when union members stop and in various ways delay temporarily hired reindeer husbandry workers, who are accused of being a strike breaker.
But since April 4, the police have the right to arrest those who do so for disruptive public order. The sanitary situation must have improved somewhat since then – but the measure has annoyed the workers even more.
– There is a greatly improved bid on the table. I urge the union unite to accept it, said Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner this week.
The strike began March 11, when the cleaning workers revolted against savings that would lower their highest -paid members’ salaries. Since then, only volunteers and extra packed, non-organized personnel have downloaded garbage.
Over the weekend, the local members of the Unite will vote on the latest bid from employers. A message about whether the strike continues is expected on Monday night.
– This conflict is not about greed or increased wages. It is about workers who risk losing £ 8,000 (SEK 100,000) in salary per year, which for some corresponds to a quarter of the salary, says Unite’s chairman Sharon Graham.
According to information in British press The new bid means that many of the highest paid cleaning workers may retain their current salary.
– But that’s a few. Others, like the garbage car drivers, still do not know how big their pay cut will be. They are the ones who are in the driver’s seat now and decide, says Sharon Graham.
According to the union Unite, most garbage collectors in Birmingham earn between SEK 25,000 and SEK 27,000 a month. They believe that they have contributed sufficiently in the form of wage cuts, as they have already received reduced compensation for shift work.
