The future runs through Cluj-Napoca, without a driver

The driver-free electric bus was tested in Cluj-Napoca, the first city in Romania where a project on urban mobility was implemented.

Already used in urban transport from Norway, this bus was also brought to the country and removed for a short route (Stadion Aleea, George Coșbuc Street, Splaiul Independence, Piatine Electrică).

Present at the event, the mayor of the municipality, Emil Boc, spoke about the importance of the moment showing that « the future runs through Cluj-Napoca, without a driver ».

« This will look like the future. With electric cars on a scale, coffee made by autonomous robots and buses on the streets of Cluj. Today, the future travels through Cluj-Napoca, without a driver, but with vision, » said Emil Boc, according to Cluj24.

Emil Boc said to specify that, for the moment, the traffic of such a bus on the streets in Romania is not possible, due to the lack of a legal framework.

The bus produced by the Turkish company Karsan has a range of about 300 kilometers and can carry up to 25 passengers. The maximum speed it can reach is 25 km/h.

So far, ten such vehicles are already in operation in cities in Norway, Germany, Switzerland and France.
