The future of the EU also depends on the expansion to the Western Balkans, Pellegrini said
The future of the European Union partly depends on the accession of new members, especially the Western Balkan countries – said Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
– I know how important the EU membership for Slovakia was. I plan to gradually visit all Western Balkan countries in order to support them on this road, provided that all conditions are met, « the EU faces a challenging period – Pellegrini said.
He noted that the European Union is facing a challenging period in which it will have to rely more on its own resources, or in boosting competitiveness, resistance or economic sphere.
Pellegrini This was stated during a meeting with the acting chief of the European Commission’s representative office in Slovakia, Radim Dvorak, marking the 21st anniversary of Slovakia’s accession to the EU.
He noted that EU and NATO membership is one of the biggest successes on the country, and that the majority of Slovak citizens support EU membership, but warned that this support « must not be taken for granted – Tanjug reports.
– It is important to constantly emphasize the positive aspects of our membership in the European Community. People must be aware of the benefits of the EU, but at the same time we must recognize the important contribution of Slovakia to the future of Europe – said Pellegrini.
He welcomed the approach of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to innovation and artificial intelligence, which he described as crucial to the future and competitiveness of the EU.
