The foundation stone for local capital and innovation wind park in Latvia / day

For Latvia, the unique and strategically significant initiative is made up of the national company – Latvenergo AS and SIA « Laflora » – power and synergy, providing Latvia with sustainable and innovative solutions in the restored energy, the largest since the construction of the Daugava HPP.

Former « Laflor » peat extraction fields in the area of 760 ha will be reused in the Kaigu Mire – installing the 16 most modern Nordex wind turbines in the Baltics with a total installed capacity of 108.8 MW, which will provide electricity each year, equivalent to more than 160,000 household consumption. This will allow you to develop the green industrial area here. The wind park will provide the local community income – 272 thousand euros a year, or more than EUR 8 million during the park.

After the wind park is completed, part of the renewable energy will be purchased by the company « Laflora » in the Zemgale region of the green industrial zone for the development of the company owned by the company in Kaiga. The wind park and the green industrial zone of more than 100 ha will not only allow Kaigu bog’s former peat extraction area, but will allow the region’s emissions to move towards climatistics. Such a green industrial zone in Latvia will be created for the first time. Along with innovative technologies, Laflor Energy wind park is a sample of green energy projects.

Half of the investments, or EUR 95 million, will be invested in the Latvian economy with significant orders for a number of national companies. The development and construction of the park is also provided by national companies – SIA « Windy », SIA « UPB Nams » and SIA « Form 2 ». Thus, the construction of the park promotes the local economy and employment with new jobs, especially since for the first time in the history of Latvia some wind station towers will be made on site in Latvia SIA « Consolis Latvija » in the new plant. The technological solution – hybrid tower from reinforced concrete and metal – is not only an innovative but also a sustainable solution, as 40% reduces carbon footprints compared to traditional turbine towers.

As the event emphasized, the foundation stone of the Laflor Energy wind park is a historic moment that demonstrates the ability of Latvian companies to cooperate and create sustainable solutions to the future of Latvia. This project is not only an important step in strengthening Latvia’s energy independence and national security, but also evidence that the local industry can be competitive and innovative at a global level.

Mārtiņš Čakste, Chairman of the Board of Latvenergo AS: « Today, in the literal sense, the basis for a very important direction in Latvian energy – wind energy. It is here in the Kaigu Mire, the largest and most modern wind park Laflora Energy in our country. This moment is symbolic. The driving force for Latvenergo is an indispensable electricity plant. I want to start from the end. The wind still really likes the wind, « We are not just a resource for us too – it is inspiration. Let the wind always blow Laflor’s Energy’s wings! »

Uldis Ameriks, Chairman of the Board of SIA “Laflora”: “With this project, we are actually continuing to bring responsible swampy to our own bog land. By purchasing the renewable energy produced in the wind park, we will be able to develop the green industrial zone of Laflora in Kaigu Mire. The climate is also offered to other emissions in the economic and high -value industries, so this is the industrial zone of the industrial zone.

« Laflor Energy wind park foundation stone is an important step in Latvia’s way to an energy independence and a greener future. This project is a testament to how we can combine forces to create technologically innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Valainis.

Construction costs are estimated at approximately EUR 185 million. The realization of the project will strengthen Latvia’s energy security by reducing the import of electricity and increasing the portfolio of the renewable resource generation of Latvenergo. At the same time, as already mentioned, half of the investment remains in the Latvian economy, in cooperation with local companies.

The Latvenergo Group continues to actively develop renewable energy source projects throughout the Baltics, with the aim of achieving a 2.3 GW of additional generation capacity. It is planned to increase the RES portfolio by 1000 MW by the end of 2026.

Laflor Energy wind park is owned by Latvenergo AS subsidiary Laflora Energy Ltd. The construction of the wind park is led by peat extraction and processing company SIA « Laflora » in cooperation with SIA « Windy » and SIA « Form 2 ». Construction is carried out by SIA “UPB NAMS”.
