The former president belongs to the rare we are fortunate enough to have among us

Speaker of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, participated and welcomed today at the ceremony of the title Honoris Causa, former President Alfred Moisiu of the European University of Tirana.

In her speech, Mayor Spiropali expressed his appreciation for Moses, stressing that the former president belongs to the rare and is fortunate that he is among us from the generation of anti-fascists and partisans of the National Liberation War, in which he participated in a young age.

The full word:

May 9th is Europe Day, which this year marks the 75th anniversary. This day is every year inspiring, but it is more so today, when Albania is on the threshold of the European Union, with the national strategic objective of joining this decade.

Europe Day is near May 8, the day of victory over fascism, which this year marks the 80th anniversary.

These symbolic dates are not only connected by the calendar, but the fact that one presupposes another. Because the values of freedom and anti -fascism lie at the foundations of the European Union.

The European University of Tirana in its nearly twenty -year history has honored with this title many well -known personalities of the country and other places.

But in no case did this title have this meaning that this one has today. Because none of the cases of personalities honored by your university contains the long history that Radiates Alfred Moisiu.

Whose figure and personality I would portray as the thread that crosses three times.

In all three times, he has retired and reinforced in public life to serve, due to his prominent qualities.

3.
Alfred Moses belongs to the rare we are fortunate to have among us from the generation of anti-fascists and partisans of the National Liberation War, in which he participated in a very young age.

But the first time, that of the war, Alfred Moses shared with his father, Spiro Moses.

It is one of the typical cases where one family was lined up among the partisan brigades, as uniform fighters, two generations, the Father and the Son.

The father to serve as commander of the partisan army, while his son as a simple, even young soldier who became a boy in war.

I am not making a biography, but I cannot fail to say two words about Spiro Moses, who, before becoming commander of the partisan army, testified a high patriotic gesture when he returned the battalion he led, mobilized by fascist Italy to attack Greece through the Albanian border.

Spiro Moisiu knew that the laws of war were heartless, but did not ask about their consequences because he was convinced that Albanians could not fight against the neighboring Greek people.

This national, neighborly and peaceful consciousness would also develop in the personality of Alfred Moses, not only during the partisan experience, but throughout his life.

4.
The second time was for Moses, just as difficult, even in some cases even more dangerous than the fight against the invaders.

With the father avoided by his communist leaders, who had led them in the partisan war, political survival and career for the Gold Medal Graduated Military Engineer would not be easy.

Only his rare qualities could serve, and served as his shield, in the delicate tasks in which he served, and where only one step separated the success of the abyss.

Part of the fate and the circumstance of this salvation was the retirement at the age of 56.

5.
The third time is the most important in the life of Alfred Moses, which we wish to become even longer.

The rapid democratic changes in Albania were reached by the stage, to serve during 1991-1992 as Minister of Protection of the Technical Government and in 1997, after years of service in institutions, Ridel retired.

From June 24, 2002, he is re -emphasized into public life and elected President of the Republic of Albania. To be the first and last consensual President of the Republic, a task in which he served with his well -known devotion, as a military, politician, patriot and prominent state man.

Known and appreciated for the natural leadership, principality, high virtues and attitude over the parties, which he was reluctant to put them in line when the need for the future and the usefulness of Albania.

We are proud to have had and have Alfred Moses, the anti -fascist, the Partizan, the engineer, the rare public official, the president, the excellent parent and the very admired man.

I still have the impressions of a warm, friendly meeting with President Moisiu, by the sea, in his beloved Kavaja of origin a few weeks ago.

Congratulations and long life, Mr. President.

Well! ”
