A photo of shells, and America gets carried away. The former boss of the BFI, James Comey, was questioned on Friday May 16 by the American secret services for an Instagram publication where the number « 8647 » appeared drawn on the sand using shells. A simple vacation photo? Not for the cabinet and supporters of Donald Trump, who detected a call to the assassination of the American president there. Accusations taken seriously by the authorities, to the point of opening an investigation and calling for the imprisonment of James Comey, old enemy of the billionaire.

Interview, tell the New York Times, took place in a secret service office in Washington, the day after the publication of the photo. Indeed, James Comey left the image online only a few hours on Thursday, before removing it against the waves of strong criticism against him. “I did not know that some associated these figures with violence. The famous daily reports that the former official has agreed to the interrogation and was not imprisoned, the authorities letting him go home in the evening.

But where does this interpretation of the number 8647 come from? In the American slang, the verb Eighty-Six (Or to be 86’d) means commonly get rid of something or not serve someone in a restaurant, be expelled from a bar (we will say: « You’re eighty-sixed « )even, in a military context, to interrupt a mission. THE Guardian summons the Merriam-Webster dictionary-which is authoritative concerning American English-to note that 86’d has very rarely been used to signify « kill »but specifies that he does not endorse this meaning « Due to its relative reception and its rarity ». Regarding the figure 47, he could refer directly to Donald Trump, 47th President of the United States.

The interpretation is porous, but what does it matter: in no time, the attacks against the former director of the FBI have taken place even in the highest spheres of the Trump administration – is not very common. Internal security secretary Kristi Noem said that the secret services, which depend on her department, were investigating the case, shortly after the photo was published. The national intelligence director, Tulsi Gabbardshe, her, downright called for the imprisonment of James Comey. But some critics of the Republican claim that his collaborators consciously grow the line in order to harass one of Donald Trump’s black animals.

Since Trump’s first term, Comey has indeed been the target of the anger of the American president, to the point that the latter had brutally dismissed from his post as director of the FBI in May 2017. At that time, the intelligence services investigated possible links between members of the campaign team of the Republican candidate and Russia, influencing the result of the 2016 presidential election. Before the Congress, James Comey had delivered an overwhelming testimony Against Donald Trump, confirming that the latter had asked him to stop investigating Michael Flynn, ex-advisor of the president mixed with this interference.
