Minister Taraba described the removal of PCB of disposal substances as a « huge milestone ».

« We are trying to speed up the process. We assume that 150 tons should be destroyed within three months, » said Daniel Studený.
He explained that they first had to sort out the waste according to the type of contamination. « We sorted loose materials from distillation residues that are glued as pitch. There are liquid waste in the barrels. We have sorted and divided everything based on analyzes, as waste processors have all strictly set technologically and financially. the state of being shipped.
Cold added that waste must be disposed of by combustion at a temperature of at least 1,100 degrees Celsius. In addition to the Vienna incinerator, the company has partners in France and in Germany if necessary.
Chemka will gradually leave a maximum of 35 trucks, they will be shipped at approximately weekly intervals. The contracted price is more than EUR 572,000 without VAT.

Scientists from the Slovak University of Technology led by Associate Professor Ladislav Štibrányi concentrated research activities on a problematic location called Spring in the former Zdrajnica Orlová.

The PCB was originally considered harmless. They were used in electrical engineering, engineering, color and coatings production, added to hydraulic liquids or capacitors.
The former Chemko national company stopped producing them in 1984 after about 20 years.
They were produced by approximately 21,500 tonnes, in some years up to 2,000 tonnes were produced annually.
Later, they were found to be very serious contaminants that can cause cancer or cardiovascular diseases, thyroid disorders and other serious health problems. Children with intellectual disabilities are increasingly being born, with men of child deafness of neurological disorders.
They negatively affect the environment. PCBs are found in the human body, even in breast milk, in domestic and wild animals, in fish, milk, meat or eggs. They got to the wider surroundings, for example, across the Laborec River or through the sprinkling salt.
A long time has not been talked about PCB
The storage of hundreds of tons of toxic PCBs in the east of Slovakia has not been officially confirmed for decades.
It did not happen only after the company went into liquidation and the industrial complex was subjected to the control of state authorities. Corroded barrels of this waste were also found on neighboring land.
In January 2020, the then government declared an emergency situation to liquidate dangerous PCB substances from the former state -owned enterprise Chemko. This was in charge of the resorts of the Interior and the Environment.
