The first signs of the new bridge can be seen in Neudorf

In Neudorf it gets serious: the work for the bridge, which connects Cents and Weimerskirch, start. For this purpose, a few temporary traffic regulations were coordinated on Monday in the capital council.

For example, the parking of cars on both sides between numbers 134 and 152 is not permitted if necessary. In addition, pedestrians must not use a certain area, even if the contractor is required.

The bridge caused many discussions in the development phase. Finally, it was about a significant increase in costs. The wheel and pedestrian bridge costs 40.1 million euros, the first cost estimate was 24.1 million euros. In October 2024, this cost explosion in the municipal council of the city of Luxembourg was coordinated. According to the Schöffenrat, the increase was primarily due to the increased price of the steel.

The bridge is also a topic before the administrative court. The interest association Neudorf and 48 private individuals submitted an application for a « recourse en annulation » in spring. The work on the bridge can be carried out regardless of the output.

200 meters long and six meters wide, which can be used 4.5 meters, the passenger is designed by the Steinmetzdemeyer architect’s office. The only pillar will have a height of 71.5 meters. Next to this pillar is also the lift that arrives in Rue de Neudorf or starts. The elevator shaft turns 60 meters high. The maintenance costs should amount to 162,000 euros a year. In Cents there is access via Rue Tawioun and in Weimershof via the rue of the bleuet.

According to the tender, 551 working days are planned. In the spring of 2028 at the latest, the bridge should be ready for operation.
