Within the framework of the Second International Cultural Heritage Protection and Research Symposium, President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üsel and Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Ali Murat Başçeri participated in the activities prepared with the contributions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus National Archives and Research Department, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

The opening speeches were read by President Ersin Tatar, National Archives and Research Department Director Ejdan Grand Vizier and Director Gökalp Yamen, the President of the Republic of Turkey, Muhammet Ahmet Tokdemir, the President of the State Archives of the Republic of Turkey and the former Minister of State and European Union of Turkey, Chief Communal and Ambassador Egemen Bağış.

In his opening speech, President Ersin Tatar congratulated everyone who contributed to the preparation of the documentary and exhibition.

Emphasizing the importance of the population exchange, Tatar said that with this exchange, two divisions took place by moving the Greeks in the north to the north and the Greek Cypriots in the north to the south and the new Cyprus reality emerged.

Expressing that the exchange was made against the mentality that wants to destroy the Turkish Cypriot people from these lands and to pass the genocide, Tatar emphasized that the exchange is the result of an important international agreement.

Ejdan Grand Vizier, Director of the National Archives and Research Department, stated that the first screening of the documentary “On the Coast of Freedom” within the framework of the Second Cultural Heritage Protection and Research Symposium and the opening of the exhibition “Cyprus 1925-1984”.

The Grand Vizier said that freedom has grown with hopes, and that hope is to reach free lands and reminded the importance of today’s peace and freedom environment.

Giving information about the exhibition, the Grand Vizier, Cyprus 1925-1984, which documented the rooted ties between Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot people, said that the 46 documents received from the Presidency of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Cypriot National Archives and the Turkish Cypriot National Archives and Rauf Denktaş private archives were included.

The Grand Vizier stated that one of the documents in the exhibition was directed towards the resettlement of the Turkish Cypriots and that Atatürk was the signature of Atatürk and that the document was proof that the connection with the Turkish Cypriots despite the difficulties during the War of Independence.

Yamen

Gökalp Yamen, one of the directors of the documentary directors on the shores of the specific ”, stated that the memory of a nation is not only in the history books, but in the waiting of a mother, in the silence of a child, in the smell of a land”.

Saying that Turkish Cypriots did not give up their belief and identity despite the absence and captivity, Yamen said that the story was a resurrection story.

Yamen stated that the documentary will be the voice of the past and the future in order not to forget the past, to understand the present and to build tomorrow.

Following the opening speeches, a documentary was screened, the exhibition was visited and plaques were presented to those who contributed.
