The feeling of freedom – altaposten.no
Thursday is 80 years since the liberation of Norway after five years of war and occupation. May 8 was and is a day of joy for the nation, but the day also gives room to reflect on countless people in 2025 undergo enormous disorders due to outrageous acts of war.
The witnesses know a lot about the fears that follow from the merciless behavior of the war, what is the reality of countless people on the globe. Alta Historielag has in a commendable way lifted this in connection with the 80th anniversary.
In Finnmark, the liberation was very special, both because of the scope of the war and the county’s very special geopolitical location.
However, the occupation ended in a way that prevents the wounds from healing. The burning was exceptionally brutal, as is the forced evacuation, wintering, recovery and the general fear that lay as a lid over the nation. The trauma must have been huge in the north.
One question must push, like a kind of elephant in the room: Has humanity really not learned anything in these 80 years?
Many may say no considering the suffering that characterizes the world to this day, including the political game that characterized the news scene.
Norway has been a peaceful corner in all these years, but it must be paradoxical for those who knew the wars of the war on the body during World War II, and all the veterans who are also honored on Thursday, that there will be a kind of permanent Ragnarok.
When the fear released the roof on May 8 and the taste of freedom was back, one would think that exactly these values were the actual driving force for human behavior. On the entire globe after two exhausting world wars, where the Holocaust stands out as the most abominable that has happened
In the real world, neither peace nor freedom can be taken for granted. On the contrary, it requires an incessant struggle to stagger the germ to war and dissatisfaction.
That is why it is also so important to mark May 8 and the feeling of getting the peace as a gift.
