The farmer tells how the escalated bison returned home
Animals|The Uukuniemi bison has been on the run for a week and a half.
Uukuniemi The escaped bison returned to their home garden on Tuesday about a week and a half after a escape trip, Biisono Breeder Olli Hälvä tells you.
The animals escaped from the Hälvä shelter from Uukuniemi’s Niukkala village on Saturday, when the gate of the shelter was opened due to a human error. A total of 12 of the herds of 12 fugitives were shot in the field last Saturday, and the rest of the way to return home.
Expectations were on the roof on Monday night as the wind turned to blow the southeast of the shelter. The bison prefer to go upwind, and so it happened: Return from the Vaara village from Parikkala, Kitee and Savonlinna began.
At that point, the trip home was 15-20 kilometers on the birds.
To the side of the sixth road, but still to the west of the road, the first of the herd ended up on Monday until late at night.
« At that point, we went to bed with both animals and us, » Hälvä says.
Animal Sleep was shorter than Hälvä and his assistants.
« The guy called at half past three at night. Had woken up when the dog had barking. The bison was on his field, » Hälvä says.
During the night, as people sleep, the bison had successfully exceeded both the train track and the six. It was now seven kilometers to the shelter.
« We went to a friend and started following the animals by car. They came in their own time a kilometer from the shelter. The rest of the journey is wooded. They made a bit of bends, but the direction was home all the time, » Hälvä says.
On Tuesday morning, the animals were facing the open gate of the shelter, and all nine stepped into the pasture in good power. “They went for a walk. Normal grazing days for them. The condition is so to speak,” Hälvä says.
Three Hälvä still considers shooting an animal on Saturday as a reasonable solution. There were many uncertainties since the wind movements, and if the animals had not returned now, Hälvä would have decided to reduce the crowd even more.
« Animals are in slaughter age, and this summer they would have been killed anyway. The meat is not wasted, but for their own family. There is reportedly a shortage of minced meat, but now doesn’t have to buy in the store, » he says.
