The EU was called not to participate in the Victory Parade in Moscow
The European Union warned its members and those who only claim to be membership in the EU, from participating in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Moscow. Moreover, in Brussels and Kyiv, they came up with an alternative event in the Ukrainian capital on May 9, so that, as they say there, « to demonstrate our unity and determination. » In response to this call, expressed by the EU Supreme EU on foreign policy, KAIA Kallas, the speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to give it to the UN International Tribunal for disrespect for the memory of those who fought with fascism.
The call, or rather, even a warning, not to participate in the Victory Parade, which Moscow outlined on May 9 in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, sounded from the lips of the EU Supreme EU on the foreign policy of the CAIA Callas at the meeting of the heads of the Mids-Mids of the Association in Luxembourg on April 14. “Any participation in the parades or celebrations on May 9 in Moscow will not be perceived by the European side frivolously, given that Russia is really waging a full -scale war in Europe,” Ms. Callas said to reporters following communication with European ministers.
To whom this appeal was addressed, she did not clarify.
But the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Bayba Brazhea explained: to refrain from participating in the Victory Parade in Moscow, primarily the countries of the Western Balkans, claiming to join the EU (formally, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia are formally included).
According to her, the Candidate countries clearly indicated that participation in such events contradicts the values of the European Union.
However, if we recall that the Kremlin from all Balkan leaders invited only the president of Serbia to Moscow (not counting only the head of the Bosnia and Herzegovina of the Republic of Serbian Milorad Dodik), it became clear that in many ways the words of Kai Callas were addressed personally Alexander Vuchich. By the way, he not only accepted the invitation to personally come to the jubilee parade, but also ordered that Serbian troops participate in the procession on Red Square on May 9. The participation of the Serbian soldiers in the military parade in Moscow is quite natural, given that the states fought together in the Second World War and “came out the winners”, in early April, the decision of President Vucich Alexander Vulin, now the ex-Prime Minister of Serbia.
In addition to the leader of Serbia, who has been waiting for her turn in the dressing room of the European Union for many years, Kallas probably tried to warn two leaders of the EU member states against a trip to Moscow for the anniversary of the victory of victory. We are talking about the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and his Slovak colleague Robert Fitzo-they, unlike other European leaders, Moscow invited them to the celebrations.
The first, however, made it clear many months ago that he would not go to the parade. As explained at the end of last year, the head of the prime minister Guyyash, in Hungary, who fought on the side of Hitler Germany during the Second World War, “the end of World War II had a different meaning” than for other states participating in it, and therefore Budapest excludes the possibility of Orban’s trip to Moscow on Victory Day.
But the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fitzo accepted the invitation of Vladimir Putin one of the first, saying that he would “be happy” to come to Moscow on this occasion at the end of November last year.
In addition to Mr. Fito, the invitation to the anniversary parade of victory were sent to all the heads of the CIS countries, as well as the leaders of Israel, Palestine, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, India and Burkina-Faso.
By the present point, their participation in the celebrations in Moscow, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, was confirmed by 17 foreign leaders.
Meanwhile, in Brussels they decided not only to dissuade those who have already officially announced about the trip to Moscow on May 9, but also to support the conduct of an alternative event in Russia on the same day, but already in Kyiv. On April 14, at the same meeting in Luxembourg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrei Sibiga transferred an invitation to his EU colleagues to come to the capital of Ukraine on May 9 in order to “demonstrate our unity and determination in the face of the largest aggression in Europe since the Second World War.” Mr. Sigib did not give any details of what program awaits guests of celebrations in Kyiv.
“I also called on all member countries, as well as representatives of institutions to visit Kyiv as often as possible in order to show our solidarity and the fact that we are with Ukraine,” said Kaya Callas, thereby supporting the invitation of the Ukrainian authorities.
The reaction from Moscow followed on the morning of May 15. The State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin condemned the head of European diplomacy for its call, proposing to give it to the UN International Tribunal. “The statement of Callas is a disrespect for the memory of those who sacrificed themselves, saving the world from fascism. Callas must be removed from office and handed over to the UN International Tribunal. The world, saved by the Soviet multinational people at the cost of 27 million lives, as well as the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition, which included the United States and England, which lost more than 800 thousand people, should always remember and honor the memory of them, ”Mr. Volodin wrote in his Telegram channel.
