The court of the Estonian city of Tartu recognized the Estonian-Russian citizen Andrew Makarov guilty of treason and sentenced to 15 years in prison for collecting information about military equipment and planning of sabotage.

Details: Makarov was accused of instructing military equipment, moving and data on allied troops in Latvia not later than 2022 and transmit the information collected by Russia.

In addition, at the beginning of 2024, the man was instructed to set fire to Tartu a car with Ukrainian numbers and to issue it for the action of the KOOS Production Party.

Another point of the prosecution concerned Makarov’s assignment in 2024 for a former Russian serviceman who fled to Lithuania.

Tartus’s court found sufficient and convincing evidence that Makarov deliberately committed treason and that his actions were based on worldviews and awarded him 15 years in prison.

Also, a citizen of Russia and Estonia obliged to cover nearly 11 thousand euros of court fees and pay compensation to one of the victims worth almost 19 thousand euros.

The court’s decision can still be challenged, specifies ERR.
