The Energy Law passed to provide lower and fair prices
The Parliament this afternoon adopted the Law on Energy, which is considered one of the more important laws that comply with Macedonian legislation with European energy regulation. 62 MPs voted for the law.
One of the most significant benefits is to create a liberal, transparent and competitive electricity market. This, according to authorities, will increase the selection and quality of consumer services, and energy prices will be lower and lower due to competition. The law was drawn up by the Ministry of Energy, without foreign consultants.
Energy Minister Sanja Bozinovska recently said in an interview with MIA that it was one of the most important laws because, according to our obligations to the energy community, it was to be adopted in 2023.
– It is very important because all European regulations are introduced, implemented here. The first time the batteries, ie the storage of electricity are regulated, are formed by civil communities. Here the first methodology for measuring energy poverty begins. With this law, MEPSO will pass under the Ministry of Energy which is normal and expected. There is also for oil, gas. There are many things, it is a very extensive law with 317 members – said Bozinovska.
And for the President of the Energy Regulatory Commission Marko Bislimoski, with this legal solution we become as if we are a member of the European Union as all European directives in the field of energy are implemented.
Both believe that the biggest challenge in the next period will be the development and adoption of the bylaws and regulations.
