The End of Traditional Democracy

The traditional foundations of democracy, as we have known them since the Revolution of April 25, 1974, are over. Silently, concepts are changed by acquired and eventually took with them the Republican classic models, announcing the end of the usual standards of democratic socialism and a certain social democracy we have become accustomed to.

The formal landmark of this turning can be found in these last legislative elections, although some signs have become visible for some time at this date. For this reason, it is still impressive that the Socialist Party gives up internally, and in depth about this change in society. It is too worrying that you do not do it and consider it to be all the same. It is not at all.

The only political force that is not surprised by this introspective omission is the extreme right, because it is on the crest of the wave, more welded to the winds of features generated by it and because, in fact, it does not know how to do it. Nor does it need. Just continue to explore cheap emotion, infantilizing voters during campaigns and maintaining discredit in institutions, of which, by irony, continues to benefit.

It was not just the ambition for stability that was concerned. We continue to observe a tendency and majority protest vote. A deep protest against the gray leaders, against a regime that, since 1974, has not yet realized the legitimate aspirations of a people, nor has it advanced with the structural changes necessary for a satisfactory quality of life, a vehement protest because it continues to defraud expectations and the successive postponement of promises, noting an obvious insurrection against the controllers of the partisan appliances, responsible for taking over, responsible for taking. The interior of the parties, driving the most capable.

Portugal can not even be unique before the current state of affairs, because this scenario spreads around the world. World politics is moving to be delivered, in a frightened majority, to a new class of unforeseen, responsible decisions without a high intellectual track, only concerned with maintaining their duties, digging an even larger pit between voters and elected.

Here, give in to revolt to imperial nostalgia. Not on their own, but for the worst feelings, because of disappointment. As traditional parties remain alien from the real country, without even realizing that the runs are increasingly reduced, the choice for those who only offer enemies can grow. And until the structural problems of this country are not resolved, the hypothesis cannot be placed as a part of the far right to overcome future legislature.

We don’t know what will come in in the coming times, but it will be quite different. To this end, the true parties will have to reflect to the point of changing their way of being, making their mea guilt and abandoning the maladjusted rhetoric of reality. Those who are frustrated with the current national policy are not angry with democracy, to the point of compromising it. You just need capable democratic leaders.
