The election committee makes the lives of Poles easier in Berlin
Five years ago, over 12.6 thousand registered for the presidential election in Berlin. people, now the number of registered reaches almost 16 thousand. The interest was so great that the servers were hanging during registration. New committees are being created so that Poles living in the German capital are closer to the urns.
The Polish woman herself tried to get an election commission in her district
– There is a great stir from elections in Poland, in the second round there are already registered more people than in the first – tells us Roksana Weronika Przyjemska, a Polish woman living in Berlin. Thanks to her efforts, the first election committee in Eastern Berlin was established.
Marzahn-Hellersdorf is a district of East Berlin neighboring Brandenburg. Until recently, Poles living here had to go to the election commission in the center of Berlin for even an hour. – It was very bothersome. There are many families here with children. Choosing so far and standing in a queue is a big problem, which is why, together with my friend Katarzyna Lasfar, we tried to create a commission here, on the spot, so as to relieve people-says Roksana Weronika Przyjemska, who is a civic deputy in the participation and integration committee chosen by the District Assembly in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. He has lived in Berlin for over 20 years.
More and more Poles in Berlin want to vote
Only a few years ago throughout Berlin there were only 4 places where Poles could vote in the election. There were long queues, you had to go far to vote. Now the committee is 8 – one of the committees is ours, which began to operate during this year’s presidential election in Stadtteilzentrum Mosaik – says Przyjemska. – Thanks to the help of our Lady, the mayor managed to find this place, the consulate employees came to watch it, accepted it, and we received the keys and prepared everything for the elections, we issued voting cards, counted voices, and later we cleaned everything – recalls Mrs. Roksana. He is glad that he managed to organize an election commission in a place where it was very lacking before. – The consulate provided us with everything, including towels, soap and toilet paper – he adds.
1,100 people registered before the first round of the committee in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. – Over 800 came to the election – says Przyjemska. In the second round, the interest in voting is much greater. – 1500 people are already registered, and people with certificates will definitely come – says Mrs. Roksana. He says that Poles in Berlin are vividly interested in the presidential elections in Poland. – A lot of people go to Poland so as not to queue in the Urns in Berlin, but also a lot of people stay and will vote here. Brandenburg people also come to vote in our committee – he assures.
There will be plenty of voting cards in Berlin
Are they afraid in Berlin that voting cards may be missing? – We are rather not threatened, because there are many more cards every time than registered. In the first round we had 1,100 people registered, and we had 2004 voting cards – he recalls. – I think it will be the same this time. Anyway, I have not heard that there was such a situation in Berlin that there was no voting cards – he adds. In Poland, during the second round of presidential elections in 2020, such situations happened. Voting cards were delivered and people stood in a queue, waiting for the possibility of voting.
We ask what moods prevail in Berlin before the second round of presidential elections. – Certainly, a stir is similar to Poland. Compared to previous elections, it seems that there is even greater polarization of society, more and more things are divided, but the most important thing is to go to vote according to your beliefs. We urge you because it is important to decide about her country – adds the Polish woman.
