The Drouot hotel wants to attract new chalands – Liberation
For a long time, Drouot, a hotel of sales built in 1852, skillfully maintained the distance from the general public. « In the 19th century, under Napoleon III, some merchants even paid tramps in the neighborhood to sit next to the bourgeois and disgust them with sales rooms, and have less competition », Alexandre Giquello, auctioneer and president of Drouot Patrimoine. He thus recalls to what extent this high place of Parisian auctions has evolved into a vacuum, playing austerity for whom there is no habits, despite an ideal geographical situation, in the ninth arrondissement, in the heart of Paris. Two years after the entry to the capital of Vesper Investissement (up to 30 %), Drouot Patrimoine-its sales rooms, its gazette and its website-seeks to attract new audiences and modernize its image by becoming a meeting place open to curious taste.
For the past few days, an unprecedented installation for the establishment has invested the hall of the Hôtel des Ventes, a framework for an exhibition of drawings selected by Judith Touitou, artistic director of the APC brand, founded by her husband, Jean Touitou. On the sidelines of the drawing week which takes place from March 26 to 31 at the Palais Brongniart (2nd arrondissement), she exhibits works by artists as renowned as Parmesan, Christo and Rauschenberg, Picasso or Uderzo, in a decor composed of lush plants, inspired by a recent trip to South India.
