For the moment, these are only small bursts of revolt, which go largely unnoticed outside the countries concerned. But, for the past year, the anger that has manifested itself in Botswana, then in Malawi, two southern African countries renowned for their natural fauna and parks, has been revealing discomfort.

Whoever opposes the Western vision of an Africa reduced to an Eden garden dating back to the origins of humanity. And, on the other hand, the reality on the spot while environmentalist policies, dictated by the West, sometimes impose themselves, even often, to the detriment of local populations. Can we love Africa, its nature, its fauna, neglecting the needs of its inhabitants?

In Botswana as in Malawi, the sling against environmentalist diktats first concerns elephants. An animal deemed intelligent and soft, which amazes tourists in the 350 natural parks of a continent halved for its wilderness. Except that in the two countries concerned, elephants are now too numerous. They damage the houses, drink water from the pipes, feed in the cultivated fields which they devastate, or trample from individuals to death.

Barely larger than France, Botswana is an inexpensive country: 2.4 million inhabitants occupy this territory, renowned for its luxurious lodges and safaris touting the discovery of an supposedly authentic Africa. But Botswana also houses the largest population
