Košice. Well -known Košice groceries near the city center decades two oversized works of art. Today, one of them is removed, the other awaits the same fate in late May. However, they should return to the public space.

The current story of the rescue of reliefs by the prominent Slovak author Imrich Vanek is the cooperation of artists, activists, monuments and developers.

The Košice people know Košice called Čížik. However, it will replace the same residence with 66 apartments. The project already has a valid building permit.

« We have known for a long time that there would be apartments, but we did not know how much it would cost. When it was pricked, the developer decided what to do, but decided and decided to return for about two years, they are already incorporated into an architectural project, » says well -known Košice artist Andrea Čepiššáková.

It specifies that there is only one certified restorer of ceramics in Slovakia, Martin Rosenberger from Levoča.

To the work with a burgker

Čepiššáková was in dismantling the work and documented it. The work lasted almost a week.

« The mosaic is removed by putting the inner masonry down, it is from behind, and the men on the scaffolding are paragraph -boggling material to avoid damaging it. They succeeded perfectly. »

The ceramic relief will be transported to Levoča, where restorers are expertly cleaned of the rest of the adhesive and prepare for storage in the deposit.

Imrich Vanek (1931 – 2015) was a Slovak visual artist and sculptor working mainly in the media of ceramics.

Since the second half of the 60s he has realized numerous large -format ceramic walls, reliefs and paintings, which he created in collaboration with architects thanks to the so -called. The head of V. spoke of the obligation to reserve a part of the budget intended for public buildings for the creation of new works of art.

His work has been awarded many times and is part of the collections at home and abroad.

Mosaic under thermal insulation

Čepiššáková, as a graduated ceramic, knew Master Vanek personally.

« His work is extremely timeless. I perceive him a bit as a master Math. When you look at his works, these are things of world importance. It is incredible how masterfully grasped in oversized areas of ceramics. »

The artist was behind the reconstruction work, when four years ago, the mosaic of one of the most desirable Slovak artists of the 20th century Július Jakoby at two Košice elementary schools under a thick layer of polystyrene ended.

“Recently we are going to the happier ends,” says Čepiššáková today.

« There is a common effort and interest. One work is in 34 crates and the city will provide a depository for temporary storage of works. I see it as a positive event against the background of the cultural marasm we experience.

Works have protection

Monument Juraj Gembický explains that the initial initiative for universal protection of all works of art in public space in Košice was their inclusion to the sights of the city as early as 2014.
