The declared wealth of taxpayers
In Greece you are what statements … in the tax office. The code for code for 6,720,037 tax returns submitted in 2024 is sketched the taxpayers’ assets and consumer profile in Greece. As stated in AADE.
This resulted in the average cost of renting a first home of 250 euros a month and for a student housing of 225 euros, but the average rental income is 450 euros. Or that only 2,500 households employ household assistants and teachers. The data arising from the statements are impressive and many of them raise questions about how much they actually respond:
One in three households resides in a privately owned home, one in four collects real estate rents which on average are 405 euros a month, six out of ten taxpayers have a car in their name, 97,000 taxpayers have a yacht, only 18,322 deposits, etc.) abroad.
At the same time, more than 116,000 taxpayers said they acquired property in one year, over 130,000 families pay tuition in private schools that on average do not exceed 400 euros a month but also 1.65 million taxpayers pay mortgages and consumer loans.
In addition, according to the same figures, 7.5 million taxpayers spent almost € 60 billion through debit, credit or prepaid cards on consumer goods and services. One year earlier, total amounts for purchases of goods and provision of plastic money reflected in tax returns were € 54.9 billion. Following the cash and POS interconnection completed last year, this year’s statements are expected to have a new increase in plastic money transactions.
Also, 1.66 million taxpayers paid $ 5.2 billion in mortgage and consumer loans to banks.
The numbers
More specifically from the x -ray of 6,720,037 tax returns submitted in 2024 (income 2023) the following are:
- Real estate: 2.335.187 households reside in a privately owned home and 1,844,384 households declare that the main residence in which they reside is leased or that they have been free of charge. The rent stated that they pay for those who live in a leased main house is only 255 euros and reaches 225 euros for the student housing.
- Real Estate Income: 1,081.634 taxpayers reported € 4.69 billion gross income from housing or average 4,300 euros. Also, 1,672 states that they have real estate abroad with the incomes they received totaling EUR 20.34 million or EUR 12,000 on average.
- Cars, yachts of recreation: Taxpayers say they have 5,494,800 cars and 96,886 yachts in their name.
- Pools: 18.322 Taxpayers say they have an outdoor pool in their home, while 377 natural persons appear in the tax office with an indoor pool.
- Deposits: Over 3.2 million taxpayers reported interest on domestic banks totaling € 567.45 million. At the same time 21,277 taxpayers have interest from deposits to foreign banks with the total amount of € 207.75 million.
- Loans: 1,659,748 taxpayers have debt from mortgage or consumer loans and pay installments totaling EUR 6.24 billion or on average EUR 3,700 per year.
- Tuition: 131,031 families go to private schools paying a total of 601.64 million euros or € 4,591.58 on average.
- Home Assistants: At 2,510 there are taxpayers who pay costs for domestic assistants, chauffeur and teachers, totaling EUR 34.6 million or EUR 13,787 on average.
- Electronic expenses for goods and services: Electronic money transactions were carried out by a total of 7,528,719 VAT. The total amount for purchases of goods and the provision of services listed on the codes of the Declaration 049 (debtor) and 050 (spouse) amounted to a total of EUR 59.47 billion.
