The debate from Euronews

Did they eat another night to find out what? To hear the fifth or tenth time the four important measures that Nicușor Dan took to recover the City Hall of Bucharest, with his return to the past, that is to the town hall. Or George Simion with the support of Georgia Meloni (that’s right, an important contact!) And with the reduction of budget staff.

After four hours I stayed with almost nothing. Only with the re-evaluation of aid and military support for Ukraine (replied George Simion), a totally opposite promise to Nicușor Dan to support Ukraine until a « peace by force ». Which « peace by force » is a political perspective Franco Brussels, not Romanian. In fact, this is also the only net difference that indicates different policies in the hand of one or the other.

But the debate was not.

The formula chosen by listening that at the conclusion of the average in high school was one of school questionnaires to which they answered when better, when worse, but never deep, argued and arguments on the talle, balance with the vision of the other. This was the previous debates from the other TVs, especially the TVR. I did not retain any important idea (not that it was), but no vision of solving some heavy files, no dispute between two different perspectives, no project to remember for a domain or region could not be presented.

School questions that have imposed school answers. In two minutes, after five minutes with a thirty second reply you cannot come up with who knows what projects in twenty areas. A debate involves fewer themes, but prepared priorly and subject to the evaluation of experts, with a competition in terms of argumentation and soundness, with complex presentations and with points of view correctly by the moderator. Maybe even with the involvement of the interested public. And when the candidates « escape the horses » or say nonsense, someone must call them to order and logic.

The two moderators brought to the liman a fragmented debate, prepared in two days, but did not break the audiences.

What electoral debate with candidates for the position of President of Romania can be done on account of the CFR, when both competitors are totally foreign domain? And the president does not have him in his duties. Moreover, in the speech at the BNR Congress, Nicușor Dan announced a future involvement of the president (if he comes out!) In court. I suppose he doesn’t realize what he said. The enormity was immediately reported by all the press in Romania. And yet, it was not a subject at Euronews. Even George Simion forgiven. But besides the dangerous « involvement » of the president in court, Nicușor Dan also spoke about the fact that the future president should give (that is, to establish!) Prioritizing investments in infrastructure. What will be the roads, highways and railways and in what order? This is how a government program is related to the return to Formula Nicolae Ceausescu.

Euronews TV is not a European television except with the name. Diffuses more European news than the others. It is a European brand franchise bought on hard money by the Polytechnic University of Bucharest from a decade -controlled company by the Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris, newer to a Portuguese group with an executive director close to Viktor Orban. From time to time, the position presents a student discovery or a didactic concern. Otherwise, it broadcasts European news and makes Romanian policy in Romanian style.

I cannot help but point out that the students were missing at this debate. And I don’t understand why. The great classroom of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest was half empty. The full half was occupied by groups of supporters, formed in most of the mobilized adults. Not that the students should have filled the room as a public public but it would have seemed normal for them to ride and bomb the candidates with their questions, dissatisfaction and anxieties.

Normally they should have found out the debate and be there even uninvited.

The total absence of the students (in the homes with thousands to several hundred meters from the classroom!) At an important debate for the country it terrifies me! But hard!
