The death toll after the car attack at the Vancouver Festival rose to 11
According to the latest data, the number of victims of the terrorist attack on the Vancouver Philippine Festival has risen to 11 and 20 people have been injured – confirmed the acting chief of police and Local police chief Steve Ray.
Police said a 36-year-old Vancouver man was arrested at the scene that the serious crime department oversees the investigation and that police are convinced that the attack was not a terrorist act.
Acting police chief Steve Ray said the actions of a person « shocked the collective sense of security ».
« It is impossible to overestimate how many lives this striker left forever, » Ray said, adding that there were many unanswered questions about why this horrible crime, which was the motive and whether anything could be done to prevent it.
A video circulating on social networks shows a young man in a black hooded hooded chain fence, and police officers and passers -by call him and insult him.
Ray declined to comment on the video, but said the suspect was in custody and was « a lonely man previously known to police ».
The attacker crashed into people attending the Lapu Lapu Day festival at 20.14 on Saturday – Vancouver Police Office said on social media.
An eyewitness to the incident stated that he saw the car driving a tight street near a fast -food truck, « right through the crowd », at about 100 kilometers per hour.
He noted that the driver stopped and tried to escape, but was caught by people nearby.
– I think it was aspiring to maximum damage. « I saw only bodies under the food trucks and men crying for their wives or children, it was simply terrible, » the witness said.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke about the incident, saying he was deeply shaken after hearing about the « dreadful events » at the Vancouver Festival. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim also said he was « shocked and deeply sad » by the festival’s « terrible incident ».
