21-year-old Adam Czerniejewski died tragically on November 14, 2019 at one of the housing estates in Konin (Greater Poland Voivodeship). He was fatally shot by policeman Sławomir L. Adam began to run away when he saw a police patrol. His father later explained that he had met a policeman who had already « got on him », hence the escape. During the pursuit of a young man, the officer shot him. The wound turned out to be fatal. From the beginning, the case aroused controversy, among others As for whether the shot fell from the front or from the back. The father of the deceased from the beginning believes that a policeman should be convicted of murder.

The first sentence in this case was passed in February 2024. The District Court in Kalisz sentenced Sławomir L. to three years in prison. One of the judge then submitted a separate sentence. She decided that the accused should be tried and convicted of the murder, not just exceeding the rights. The Court of Appeal in Łódź referred the case for reconsideration, Which did not like the prosecutor’s office, which only expected a change in the sentence.
Now another decision has come, issued by the Supreme Court. He decided that the prosecutor’s office was unjustified. He also pointed out that the decision of the Łódź court to refer the case again to first instance is competent. However, it was withdrawn. Why? The point is that the adjudicating panel was then a neo-judge, i.e. a judge who was appointed as a result of changes considered by many as unconstitutional. Now the Court of Appeal in Łódź will have to be considered again.

This means that for Adam’s loved ones there is another chance for a higher sentence for Sławomir L.
It doesn’t matter to me what judge runs and whether it is neo-judge. I just want this man to answer for what he did to my son. Three years in prison is simply a funny punishment. I hope that this time the sentence will be different
– says Artur Czerniejewski to « Fakt ».
He adds that a policeman should spend many years in prison. -For me it was a deliberate murder-says the father of the killed 21-year-old.
It is not yet known when the Court of Appeal in Łódź will deal with this case.
