The death of a 4-year-old in the tram door. The specialist revealed an important detail
The accident occurred in 2022 at ul. Jagiellońska (at the « Platerówka » Battalion stop) in Warsaw. Grandma got out of the vehicle first. The boy followed her. The child, however, did not manage to leave the vehicle, because the door sewn up his leg. The vehicle dragged a four -year -old on a stone track about 420 m. It could not be saved.
In connection with the death of little Aleksander Motorler, he heard allegations. According to the prosecutor's office, « he deliberately violated the rules of safety in land traffic and the provisions of the instructions for Warsaw trams employees and inadvertently caused an accident with a fatal effect. »

The case appeared in the vandand a year ago. The evidence collected (including recordings from monitoring and telephone calls) shows that the driver used the phone and headphones while driving.
– In addition, after closing the door, he did not make sure that the vehicle will not hurt the passengers and the people at the stop. He devoted too little time to the assessment of the situation around the tram-prosecutor Aleksander Krasuska-Szewczak said at one of the hearings.

On Monday, March 10, the court interrogated the expert, who analyzed the moment when Mrs. Maria left the tram with her granddaughter.
– Are there markings above the door indicating how the boy's grandmother should behave after hearing the door closing signal? – asked the expert defender, lawyer Robert Victim.
– There are no guidelines for the preservation of passengers in public transport – the expert in the technical condition of the vehicle began the answer. He also noticed that the type of tram traveled by the family creates a danger to passengers. To get out of it, you have to overcome three degrees.
What is the mirror range on the tram?
– There is no direct output to the platform, so for an elderly it can be a kind of architectural barrier that hinders a quick and efficient exit from the vehicle – the specialist said.
And could the driver not know that the family went out through the rear door of the wagon? It turns out that the range of the driver's mirror includes not only the entire tram, but also the stop. – The platform is shaped parallel to the car line, so being on the platform, you are clearly visible in the driver's mirror – explained the expert.
The next question concerned the time of parking at the bus stop. « He was the shortest on the entire route, » said the expert. And he added: – But it resulted from traffic, it is the penultimate stop on the route.
Motorist Robert S. did not admit to committing the alleged act and refused to explain. He faces eight years in prison.
