The danger is not high but is present
The risk of something happening due to earthquakes in Grindavík is not high at this moment, but the danger exists, however, according to Benedikt Gunnar Ófeigsson, professional director of deformation measurements at the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
An open presentation meeting on the status of earthquakes in Grindavík took place today. Lively discussions took place at the meeting and residents of Grindavík seem to have been fully satisfied with the situation. The discussions were largely about risk deficit that the Icelandic Meteorological Office oversees due to the earthquakes in the Reykjanes peninsula.
The experts who spoke at the meeting agreed that there is little or no danger of volcanic eruption or other natural disasters at Grindavík at this time. Despite this, the Icelandic Meteorological Office’s risk assessment says that there are various dangers to Grindviks.
The risk card warns, apparently, unequivocally at the dangers of Grindviks.

Men often interval of the danger
« The likelihood of something happening in Grindavík is not zero. There is little likelihood that something will happen in the coming weeks. We are still looking at the risk of being greater over time, » says Benedikt Gunnar in a conversation with mbl.is after the meeting.
Benedikt does not believe that the risk card is too much of a risk of the Grindviks.
« The problem is that people are often interpreting the dangers we put in the risk card now. The danger is not great but it exists. Tourists to, for example, understand this, they just see that there is a danger and that’s what residents are pointing out. »
Should not be threatening
Benedikt believes that it should be considered to change the way the risk card is shared with the public.
« I think this is about how we disseminate this information. It’s not just under the Icelandic Meteorological Office, I think that in order to meet these views, more people need to come.
