The danger in Swabia & Upper Bavaria is so great
He can flood the basement, carry cars, transform narrow streams into raging rivers: heavy rain – and the resulting floods – is the most frequently risk of nature in Bavaria. « About half of the person and property damage caused by natural hazards go back to floods through flood events, » said the Bavarian State Office for the Environment. And the danger increases.
Worry about floods in Bavaria
As a result of climate change, heavy rain events will become increasingly common in the future – even in Bavaria. The good news: citizens can protect themselves from this (see tips at the end of the text). The bad ones: Exfloods cannot be predicted exactly. « A single local thunderstorm can trigger devastating floods and floods in a district, » said the state office on request. And further: « At the same time, the surrounding larger waters can be spared floods. »
There was a different phenomenon in the floods last year: rain that went over a large area for a long time. The consequences were:

- Waters stepped over the bank, such as The Schmutter at Fischach in the district of Augsburg.
- Groundwater increased and flooded basement, Like in Augsburg.
- Water could not flow, for example on paved soils.
The environmental attras Bavaria shows which cities and villages could be affected by flood in the future in so -called flood cards. In the following pictures you can see how strongly your region is at risk. Wipe in the sliding picture to the right or left to see areas endangered by floods. The darker the blue is, the more likely flooding. The yellow areas are temporarily secured areas. These are only affected by flooding in rare cases.

« Basically, almost everyone from heavy rain and the resulting flood can be affected, » said the state office. Potential affected people even have the obligation to take protective measures. The Water Household Act (WHG) stipulates: « Every person who can be affected by floods is obliged to adapt suitable precautionary measures to protect against disadvantageous floods and reduction in damage, in particular the use of land for people, environment or real assets by flooding. »
The state office also informs how this can be done. You should ask yourself these questions – and act if necessary:
