He has to present his demands more moderate, he has to try to reconcile the country and not to split more. He needs consultants who show him the way to measure and in the middle and not people like Carsten Linnemann who, like the chancellor, think and work in spe – but a bit like coke. The almost 70-year-old Merz has to reinvent himself. Even if that seems unlikely – if Merz does not understand that after today’s debacle, he can no longer help him.
