The Czech Republic has ended addiction to Russia’s oil / day

The European Union (EU) and the Czech Republic signed an agreement in 2023 to increase the power of the Transalpu pipeline.

The Czech Republic received Russian oil through the pipeline « Druzhba » until the beginning of March, when these supplies were interrupted two months after the completion of the Transalp oil pipeline.

« The first enlarged supplies were received yesterday, » says Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala. « For the first time in history, the Czech Republic is supplied with oil that does not come from Russia through the Western route. » Emphasizes Fiala.

The Czech Republic will now be able to receive up to eight million tonnes of oil per year along the transnalpa pipeline, which will fully satisfy the demand.

The transnalpa pipeline connects the port of Trieste in Italy to the southern city of Germany Ingolstadt, but from there is a connection to the Czech Republic.

The Transalpa pipeline is owned by an eight -company consortium, including the Czech state oil pipeline operator Mero, as well as « Shell », ENI and « ExxonMobil ».

In May 2022, in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EU banned most of the oil imports from Russia, but these sanctions did not apply to the Druzhba pipeline.
