A cyclist with severe damage on his face was one of the first patients in the National Health Service (NHS).

Service to the entire south -west region of the country, Bristol 3D (three -dimensional) Medical Center is performing printing with three -dimensional imaging.

This center provides scientific and technical support to trauma patients with advanced digital technology and expert reconstructive skills.

Dave Richards, who lives in Devon, said that after the accident, he felt more comfortable ”thanks to this center.

In July 2021, Richards was seriously injured by a bicycle with two friends in Mearet town of Somperset, while a alcoholic driver from behind was seriously injured.

75 -year -old Richards, « The driver was both alcoholic and looking at the phone. My friends survived, but they lived various bone fractures. I stuck under the vehicle and I lived in my right ribs with serious burns on one side of my body and face, » he said.

Richards, who underwent many reconstruction surgery at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and rehabilitated in different fields of expertise, began to rebuild his life.

Richards, who still went to Bristol 3D Medical Center, was recently given hundred prostheses.

With a large eye pit (orbital) prosthesis created with the technology of the center, special atellers were made for the scars in the neck area.

In the center, Richards’s face can be recorded digitally with a 3D (three -dimensional) scanning, a digital copy can be created and molds for prostheses can be designed.

Speaking to the BBC, Richards said, “Most of the time people don’t notice. I’ve been living this for four years. In fact, most things are in my head. People don’t even notice or say anything or they accept me as I am. »

Richards continued as follows:

« If I want to be social, if I look at the mirror, I feel much more comfortable if I look reasonable. »

Bristol 3D Medical Center was opened in April at the old French Hospital outside the city.

This center is collecting a new science and technology service under a single roof and became one of the first NHS hospitals to receive the Peek printer who can make personalized products at temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius.

The body of the individual sitting in a private planning room in the center can be digitally mapped.

This room is so developed that even moving babies can scan.

The center also finds many other new application areas.

For example, thanks to the 3D model of a damaged kidney, surgeons can see not only the part to be taken, but also the nerves and blood vessels that should be avoided.

The equipment of most of the center was financed by the Aid Organization of Southmead Hospital, the official charity organization of North Bristol NHS Trust
