Eighteen years later, The new turning point in the case of the crime of Garlasco. Genetic material that, according to the Pavia prosecutor's office, certainly does not belong to Alberto Stasi. But it would instead be of Andrea Sempliotoday 37 years old and who had 19 at the time of the crime and was a friend of Chiara's brother. A young man who knew the victim, attended the house in via Pascoli and in the days preceding the crime he had telephone contacts with Chiara. Semplio is now investigated by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office for competition in murder with stasis (as formally the only condemned) or a person who remained unknown. Thursday 13 March Semia, will have to present himself at the headquarters of the Scientific of the Carabinieri of Milan to be subjected to the salivary examination And to the buffer in a « compulsory » way on the order of the judge after last week denied the consent to the DNA examination, as his defender confirmed, the lawyer Massimo Lovati.
Genetic expertise
His name had already emerged in 2016 when The defense of the former Bocconi student In 2016 he had presented a genetic expertise that starting from the DNA found on the victim's nails had identified the profile of a semium. Therefore, no comparison was carried out. Then in 2020 there was a second attempt to reopen the case by the defense of Stasi, equally closed with nothing done. At the center always the question of DNA and some critical observations of the Carabinieri of Milan on the investigations carried out at the time of the crime. Story equally closed with storage.
The green light of the Cassation
Now, however, the same prosecutor of Pavia, led by the prosecutor Fabio Napoleone and the addition of Stefano Civardi, who delegated the carabinieri of the Milan investigative nucleus. At the center of the investigations always the DNA champion who – as supported by important new exams carried out in laboratories – would be perfectly usable for legal purposes. The PM of Pavia, after certified that that DNA was instead usable, carried out some investigations coming precisely to the name of Semve. Then the request for reopening the previously archived file, a necessary step to investigate the same person for the second time for the same crime. But the judge for the preliminary investigations of the Court of Pavia initially rejected the requestinstead accepted in recent months after the appeal in the Cassation of the prosecutors. The Ermellini in December recognized the correctness of the hypotheses of the Pavia Prosecutor's Office and in fact ordered the reopening of the case and the start of the new investigations on semio.
The investigation is therefore a sort of file parallel to the one that led to the condemnation of stasistarting from the theoretical hypothesis that, If he really was the one who killed Chiara Poggi (as the final sentences established), he did it together with (at least) another person, the precisely one whose biological traces were found on the crime scene and the victim's body.
Motive
Stasi had been acquitted twice, At first instance (abbreviated) and on appeal, then the Cassation had referred to a new appeal judgment that had led to the sentence to 16 years. Then the controversial verdict of the Supreme Court who with the same prosecutor of the Cassation who at the time had asked for the cancellation of the sentence to Stasi with referral for a new judgment. The Ermellini, however, had confirmed the responsibilities of the former boyfriend and 16 years of prison. The motive of the crime had been traced back to a « moment of anger » of stasis against the victim. Now, however, the same prosecutor is autonomously who conducted the investigations, not the defense of Stasi. A scenario that in fact can rewrite all or a part of the history of crime of garlasco: a murderer remaining so far in freedom and an innocent in prison for 18 years?
