The court sentenced Grzegorz O. to the brutal murder of Karolina O.

Betrayal, jealousy and planned crime
Karolina O. wanted to escape from toxic life and start all over again. First she left her husband, who abused alcohol to get involved with his brother Grzegorz O. Unfortunately, this relationship was also not strewn with roses. Alcohol and jealousy also prevailed in it. The woman began to meet with another man. Grzegorz O. could no longer accept this and planned a crime. January 23, 2024 He decided to measure « punishment » of the partner who suspected of treason.
– It was a crime of revenge. He killed her because in his opinion she was unfaithful to him – said prosecutor Artur Bula during final speech at the District Court in Gliwice. – Every detail was planned.
Grzegorz O. knew perfectly well that that day Karolina was preparing for an interview at her daughter’s school. He moved the ax from the basement to the garage and waited for the right moment. He lured the woman with a trick, saying that he had prepared a surprise for her. As soon as she entered the garage, he attacked. He dealt three blows in the head.
Karolina’s family lawyer: there is no question of social rehabilitation
The lawyer of the murdered family, Marek Langosz said in his final speech that for Grzegorz O. there is no mitigating circumstances. He demanded, like the life prosecutor for the perpetrator. – Karolina O. hit with such force that she had no chance of survival. He led to an orphaning of a small child. He is a demoralized man, previously punished for violence. There is no question of social rehabilitation – he said in court.
After the murder, Grzegorz O. took a bag with things prepared earlier. At first he wanted to escape, but eventually he changed his mind and came to the police station. He said: I wanted to report the murder of a former partner.
The accused counted on a mild sentence. He didn’t get one
Grzegorz O. confessed to the murder, tried to apologize to the victim’s family. He asked the court for a mild sentence. He and his defender wanted the punishment not higher than 10 years in prison. On June 2, the District Court in Gliwice sentenced the perpetrator of a cruel crime to 30 years in prison. – The accused is guilty of murder. He hit Karolina O. three times with a hatch in the head, (…) and, as a consequence, death – said judge Adam Chodkiewicz. – There is no doubt that he committed a crime. He planned everything. He killed in the garage, where he had prepared things. The only soothing circumstance for the perpetrator is the fact that he finally reported to the police and gave explanations.
Grzegorz O. was clearly surprised because he did not expect such a sentence. When Judge Chodkiewicz said how many years he spent behind bars, the accused hid his face, covering himself with his hands. It was obvious that he was devastated by a sentence.
The court also planted the compensation that the perpetrator is to pay for a minor child the victim. It’s 100,000 zloty. The verdict is not final. It is possible that the defender of the convict will appeal.
