The Court of Accounts proposes to cut the electoral subsidies to Junts in almost 180,000 euros | Spain
After analyzing the accounts of the parties that attended the last general elections, in July 2023, the Court of Accounts has proposed to the Ministry of Interior to cut the subsidies granted for those elections to six parties, for observing irregularities or deficiencies in its economic justification. Of these formations, it stands out for the amount Junts, with a reduction of 178,508.41 euros. The amount is equivalent to 10% of the sum that Carles Puigdemont’s party paid its suppliers after the 90 -day period of rigor, a delay that sanctions the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (Loreg).
These proposals for subsidies are directed to Interior about those political parties that have incurred certain breaches of the electoral regulations and the criteria of the supervisory body. The requirement to pay before 90 days derives article 125.3 of the LOREG, which stipulates that « the election campaign is finished, you can only have the balances of these accounts to pay, in the ninety days following that of the vote, previously contracted electoral expenses. »

For the call of July 2023, the Court of Accounts has analyzed the numbers of 16 formations, which received 56.8 million euros and spent 58.1 on those elections. No formation exceeded the maximum limits of expenses, and they all had, as appropriate, from a specific electoral account. In addition to the six exceeded the legal deadline to pay their suppliers, six also had an excess billing in envelopes and ballots with respect to justified shipments.
