– The word « mama » in many languages of the world sounds very similar or equally. Mother is a symbol of the greatest love and devotion. It is not uncommon to devote her own life to the child’s protection. And convicted, in the most terrible and repulsive way, the trust of a three -year -old child, which was completely dependent on her, said in January this year the judge of the Supreme Court Andrzej Stępka, maintaining the judgment of the Court of Appeal of December 2023, in which Magdalena C. was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of applying for early release after 25 years.

This judgment is the final of a high -profile case from Poznań, which thoroughly shook the inhabitants of all over Poland four years ago. On May 4, Magdalena C. 26-year-old then murdered her three-year-old daughter Zuzia in the apartment at Winklera at Winklera in Poznań in Łazarz in Poznań.
The circumstances of this tragedy are shocking. A young woman lived in a tenement house belonging to her family with her mother and daughter. She waited for her mother to return to work after a long weekend, then took a knife with the longest blade she was at home, led her daughter to the bathroom and there she pierced her heart for the first time. The first blow was not fatal. Magdalena C. so she began to stew Zuzia, and then, in the room, she dealt two more blows with a knife. Then she wrapped a dying 3-year-old in a blanket and told a friend what happened. Help arrived immediately. Doctors fought like lions for the girl’s life. Unfortunately. Zuzia died on the operating table.
The court issued the most severe judgment in the Third Polish Republic
Magdalena C. later said that she was afraid of her daughter’s father and planned to commit suicide after her death. She pointed out that she had prepared an infusion of a yew, which she intended to drink, but she lacked courage. Nobody believed her. Unofficially investigators admitted that the poison could kill at most a fly.
Experts who examined the woman after this cruel crime had no doubt that at the time of committing the murder she was fully read and was well aware of what she was doing. The first process was pending exclusive. The District Court in Poznań had no doubt about Magdalena C.’s guilt. He sentenced her to a life imprisonment, with the proviso that she would be able to apply for early release only after 50 years of imprisonment. It was the most severe judgment for a woman that the court issued in the Third Polish Republic. It was not yet known why a young woman was sentenced to such a high punishment. Everything became clear only during the appeal process, which was already taking place with the participation of the audience.
Shocking motives of Magdalena C.
At the hearing, Magdalena C. flooded with tears, arguing that she loved her daughter with all her heart and would never kill her. However, the evidence collected in the case completely contradicted this. The court of second instance revealed macabre details of the crime. The most shocking were the motifs that C. killing Zuzia was guided.
– She had broad interests about forensics, also associated with her psychological studies, she wanted to get to work in a prison, she wanted to see how it was to deprive man’s life – said judge Marek Kordowiecki while announcing the sentence in the court of appeal in December 2023 Magdalena C. She confided with her dreams of a friend. It was the co -existing testimony that shocked the first instance court that he decided to get the strictest of the possible sentences.
Mother sentenced to life imprisonment
The Court of Appeal decided that the possibility of applying for early release only after 50 years is inhumane, but he maintained life sentence. He determined that Magdalena C. would be able to apply for a conditional release after 25 years.
– However, this does not mean that it will be released then – explained the court judge Marek Kordowiecki.
The case finally went to the Supreme Court, but the one in January this year gave her away. This means that a life sentence imposed by the Poznań Court of Appeal is ultimately final.
