In the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading supported the bill №12276which restores compulsory military training for medical students and pharmacists.

The authors of the bill propose to restore military training for students of medical and pharmaceutical institutions of higher education. The compulsory training will be carried out by those education applicants who are suitable for military service and have been selected.
It is expected to help enhance the country’s defense and make military medicine « systemic », Written in the Verkhovna Rada.
The explanatory note of the bill states that in Ukraine there are nine universities who teach students of the specialty « medicine » at the state expense, but only four of them operate military training units.
In addition, military training under the program of reserve officers of the medical service is carried out on a voluntary basis and mainly at the expense of individuals.
« The bill was developed in order to meet the needs of the state in military medical staff by restoring compulsory military training under the training program of medical service officers for higher education applicants in medical and pharmaceutical specialties »– the authors of the document explained.
We will remind, since September 2025 Ukrainian students will pass the basic general Military training (BZVP). The Defense Ministry explained that training will be a separate discipline that will be compulsory for women and men.
