The Council of Ministers approves scholarships of up to 12,000 euros per year to access the judicial career | Spain
The Government will approve in the Council of Ministers on Tuesday the new call for scholarships, which seek to guarantee equal opportunities in the access to the judicial career. According to sources from the Ministry of Justice consulted by the country, the economic endowment of these grants may amount to 12,000 euros per year per student for four years.
The call for scholarships for 2025 will have an endowment of 15.6 million euros, which means that around 1,300 aid may be granted to those who are preparing oppositions to the highest bodies of the judicial career: judges, prosecutors, lawyers of administration of justice and lawyers of the State. According to sources from the Ministry, these scholarships are « a priority » and therefore, the amount of the assignments that will be approved on Tuesday almost double The one approved for the same purpose in 2024then, the scholarships would be 8 million budget. The number of beneficiaries has also been increased since the first call: in 2022 245 scholarships were granted, while it is expected that in 2025 there are about 1,300.
Of the 12,000 euros per year that the opponents will receive, 8,400 will be direct financial aid and the rest will be aimed at the preparation, which will include the accompaniment of one or more tutors and two weekly sessions that will adapt to the student’s needs. Oppositions can also access a preparation program with active judges and prosecutors coordinated by the Center for Legal Studies.
In 2024983 scholarships were granted to guarantee equal access to the judicial career. Of the total beneficiaries, 790 used the scholarships to start their training to become judges or prosecutors, 162 did it to access the body of lawyers of justice administration and 31, to prepare to be lawyers of the State.
Andalusia headed the number of beneficiaries, 26% of the aid were allocated to students from that community, followed by the Valencian Community, where they were 13%. 90% of the beneficiaries were between 21 and 33 years old. Most of the scholarships will be delivered in 2024, women (791) were given compared to 192 that were granted to men.
