The convicted Rostas is supposed to discuss with the support of the city just a few meters from the synagogue, the people are against – SME
They are preparing the first public protest in the city.
Vrbové. In Vrbovo in the district of Piešťany, there has been a heated discussion over the past days, which even resulted in the first public protest in the history of the city. It takes place on Thursday, May 29.
The reason is the planned discussion of the Conspiration Magazine Earth and Age with Readers, which is to be held in the city spaces of the Mórica Beňovský Curia on the same day.
The editor -in -chief of the magazine, Tibor E. Rostas, was lawfully convicted of the Supreme Court for defamation of the race and the nation in 2021.
The public learned about the upcoming event from the posters posters. They informed that the event would take place with the support of the city of Vrbové and also carried its coat of arms.
This fact was outraged by many residents, deputies and local activists who warn that an action with a man with such a past has nothing to look for in the urban space. The addressed mayor did not comment on this.
Mayor went an open letter
Sára Jobusová, who addressed Mayor Štefan Kubík (Smer), also responded to the posters.
« I consider it unacceptable that the event of the magazine spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories, pro -Russian propaganda, misleading health and pandemic information is given space and support from the city. I think such content is contrary to the values that the city should support, » she said.
Rostas failed with dismissal if he fails to pay a fine, will go to sit Read
Her challenge started a wider resistance, to which MEPs and well -known personalities from Vrbový joined. Vrbovčan, musician and writer Braňo Jobus together with members of the band Carpathian backs and two deputies personally visited the mayor at the office. After their intervention, the posters were withdrawn almost immediately from the city’s boards. However, the discussion was not canceled.
« The mayor gives his hand away that he doesn’t even know what it is, he just gives the space. Another representative of the municipal parliament, Tatiana Prievozníková, also disagrees with the event.
« Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, but it is also associated with the duty to distinguish between good and bad, moral and unethical.
The opposite view is held by MP Miroslav Belanský, who in the past in the city under the Leaning Tower organized controversial discussions, for example with a SO Štefan Harabin. As he states: « Everyone has the right to say freely within the law of the law what they think and present their opinion. »
Three other elected representatives also delivered their opinions to the editors. Ľubomír Šterovský, Ján Višňovský and Jana Miklášová. They stated that they were not informed of the event and refused any connection with its organization. Other Members did not respond to our questions and the head of the city is silent.
Who organized the event?
The transparency of the whole action remains questionable. At Vrbovská Town Hall, we asked how it participates in the event and under what conditions it is held in the city.
Mayor Kubík, his deputy or the head of the Office do not answer the questions and the contract, order or invoice concerning the rental of premises is not even published. At the same time, the law imposes an obligation on the municipalities to disclose information on the management of public property.
Ján Ivančík, a lawyer of Transparency International Slovakia, states that « even free borrowing of the premises should be contractually treated and published. »
The question of how this situation has occurred remains open. If the event is organized by a private entity, why did the city coat of arms appear on the posters? And if the city is a co -organizer, why did not know about it and the public in advance?
The Jewish religious community feels touched
The planned event also affected representatives of the Jewish religious community. Historical records say that the Jewish community consisted of up to a third of the city’s population in the 19th century. During the Second World War it was a get for Jews from the district of Piešťany, most of which were deported to concentration camps. In the city there is a synagogue and a Jewish cemetery.
« Mr. Rostas’s activities are very well known to us. He is a person who consciously spreads lies, even if he knows that information is false about them. He is a person whose reality blends with the figures of his imagination. the Criminal Code. Therefore, we would be very sad if any representative of the state or self -government contributed to the spread of his ideas and opinions, ”commented the Central Union of Jewish Religious Communities in the Slovak Republic.
Vrbové without shame: residents do not want to be silent
While the Competent City Hall is silent and expect the situation to overwhelm the situation, dissatisfied residents refuse to remain silent.
“In May I graduated from the concert line after Ukraineeven with Michael Kocáb and the Carpathian backs, and I had the opportunity to go through places destroyed by Russian terrorists. The shame, when you see the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, as he shakes his hand with the murderer is huge. Stay quiet and just look at how hoaxes and propaganda destroy Slovakia is already a sin in today’s situation, ”said musician Branislav Jobus.
Activists on social networks have founded an informal group called Vrbové without shame and are going to go to the streets. On Thursday, 29 May in the afternoon, the first public protest in the history of the city should be held before the Mórica Beňovský Kuria.
