The coalition of the Riga City Council agrees to restore three vice mayor positions in the capital / day
Each of the political forces will have one vice mayor.
As the politician Viesturs Kleinbergs (P) informed the journalists today, the agreement reached that the « Progressive » will chair the Committee on Finance and Administration Affairs and the Committee on Transport and Transport.
The NA will chair the Committee on Security, Order and Corruption Prevention, the Housing and the Environment Committee, as well as the Property Committee.
JV will chair the Education and Social Affairs Committee.
In addition to the Vice Mayor, the Development Committee will also be available.
As reported, the political forces mentioned today continued to negotiate the formation of the coalition.
Three vice -mayor positions were created in October 2020, when, after the Riga City Council elections, the City Council was formed by Mārtiņš Staķis, who at the time represented « for development/on » https://www.dien.lv/ « Progressive » joint list.
With the losing position of the plague and Vilnius Kirs (JV), the new coalition was eliminated by the new coalition.
Prior to that, Riga Mayor Jan Birk (TB/LNNK) also had three deputies – Andris Argalis (TP), Almers Ludviks (LPP/LC) and Janis Dinevich (LSDSP). Riga City Council Chairman Nils Ushakov had only one deputy – Andris Ameriks (GKR).
As reported, in the local elections in the Riga City Council, the highest number of votes – 18.17% – won the « Latvia in the first place » (LPV), which gives the list 13 out of 60 deputies. 16.62% of voters voted for « progressive » and the party will receive 11 Member’s mandates, 14.2% of voters who give it 10 mandates, but the current Mayor of Riga, JV, gained 12.9% of voters, thus receiving nine places in the council.
The list of « sovereign power » and « Jaunlatvians » has won 12.13% of the vote and will be eight mandates. Two more political forces – the « stability » party, supported by 6.94% of voters, and AS, supported by 6.29% of voters, which allows five and four mandates respectively.
The initiative to form the new ruling coalition has been taken by « Progressive » in terms of NA, JV and AS. A total of 34 votes from 60 would have such a coalition.
