The city was enriched with a thousand oaks!
The President of Gdańsk President Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, managing director of Gdańsk Gdańsk, Piotr Kryszewski, deputy director of GZDIZ for public space Barbara Tusk and the Forestry Forest of Gdańsk Dr. Sebastian Klisz, took part in the Saturday action.
– I am glad that together we will embellish the border between two districts of our city. This is a good opportunity to get to know your neighbors better. Today we meet to plant over a thousand oak seedlings together and create a new flower meadow – President Dulkiewicz said during the Spring in Gdańsk campaign. – This is not only an investment in the city’s aesthetics, but above all in its climate, biodiversity and better air quality. Every tree we plant is a step towards a healthier and friendly Gdańsk. We don’t slow down. We have more green initiatives ahead of us, which we will implement together for the good of us all.
– Today’s action is an example of fruitful cooperation between the city and the Gdańsk Forest District. Together, we make sure that there are more and more trees in our city, which directly translates into an improvement in the quality of life of residents – emphasized Piotr Kryszewski, director of Zielony Gdańsk.
Such actions are of great importance because they increase the biodiversity of Gdańsk areas. Trees have many key functions in the city. They not only enrich the landscape and increase the aesthetics of space, but above all they produce oxygen, cleanse the air and provide shadow on hot days.
The action of planting trees is part of the Gdańsk card for trees. This is a document that defines the standards of protection, care of the stand in the city and management.
– Thanks to the card, we approach the greenery in a comprehensive and long -term way. Our goal is not only to plant new trees, but also concern for those that are already growing so that they can serve the next generations of residents – emphasized Piotr Kryszewski.
Dr. Sebastian Klisz instructed the gathered how young trees should be planted. The secret is the thickening of seedlings.
– We plant densely to differentiate ecosystems, species of flora and fauna, and later to select prosperous, future -oriented, valuable copies of trees – said Klisz.
The possibility of planting your own tree worked on the imagination. The most active were the youngest participants of the campaign, who worked with joy and enthusiasm at plantings. Finally, a flower meadow was sown. The honey -growing flowers will be a canteen for insects.
– Soon the meadow will bloom and will be pulsating with life. Attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects that play a key role in our ecosystem – said Barbara Tusk. – We will have to wait a bit longer for prosperous trees, but it is worth remembering that sessile oaks are a species perfectly adapted to our areas. The deep root system makes them tolerate periods of drought well and are resistant to more difficult soil conditions. In the future, they will become a natural shelter for birds and other animals.
The possibility of planting oak and sowing a meadow was not the only attraction. A warm treat was waiting for the participants of the campaign, various ecoanimations and inspiring stories about the forest, nature and its role in human life were prepared for the youngest.
