Some data is collected manually.

The city of Veľký Krtíš has decided some time ago to find out its climate resistance to take better measures, for example in the energy area.

Good data is needed for good decisions, and they have finally proved to be one of the biggest problems for self -government.

In order to be able to evaluate her balance by analytical tools, she needed data from distribution companies.

« Distribuce usually wants to provide data only for the offtake points that are entered for self -government, but no longer want to cooperate in terms of natural persons or companies operating within the self -government, » says the head of Veľký Krtíša Marián Balko.

Thus, the city had to find the data itself and model the situation according to the calculation based on data from the Statistical Office on average household collections.

Data on climatic conditions such as drought, water availability, average temperatures, frequency and precipitation density, possible landslides, wind conditions and the like are also important for climatic measures in cities.

However, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute does not provide information to the municipalities or claim fees for them.

« It is strange that at a time when we have all the technology and we can record everything, we have no data availability, » says Balko. « How we set up legislation is a disaster. »

Data need for self -government is devoted to the Union of Towns of Slovakia.

« We plan to solve some of the problems with more proactive communication, but some will probably require legislative changes, » says Daniela Piršelová for the Union. « We are afraid that the example of the malfunction of such an important state institution as the SHMI shows that the solution to this issue will, unfortunately, will be even more demanding in some areas. »

Data make decisions

Veľký Krtíš was one of the first places to use the Klimasken analytical tool. The project was established in cooperation with the NGO of the Circular Economy (Incien) and found climate risks in Veľký Krtíš – such as extreme heat, long -term dry, tidal rain, floods or increased risk of forest fires.
