The Cernavoda nuclear power plant reduces its strength
The power of the unit 1 Cernavoda CNE will be reduced by 50 MW, starting on Tuesday, for carrying out punctual remediation works in the classic part 1, without impact on nuclear security, according to an announcement of the Nuclearelectrica SA, published on the Bucharest Stock Exchange website.
« SN Nuclearelectrica announces that on March 4, 2025, it will reduce the power of unit 1 Cernavoda by 50 MW. The reduction of power is necessary for carrying out punctual remedial works in the classic part of unit 1, without impact on nuclear security. The reduction of power will be achieved according to the Cernavoda CNE procedures, applicable in such situations, without impact on nuclear security, staff and environment ”, says the company.
Nuclearelectrica will issue a current report at the time of returning unit 1 to nominal power.
Unit 1 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant (CNE), with an installed power of 700 MW, was put into operation in 1996 and has delivered, so far, 133 million MWh, representing 9% of the national consumption, over a period of 26 years. Unit 1 also prevented the release of 130 million tonnes of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Nuclearelectrica is the National Company of Electricity, Thermal and Nuclear Fuel in Romania, which operates under the authority of the Ministry of Energy, the Romanian state holding 82.49% of the shares, and the other shareholders 17.50%, after the company listing in 2013.
