The Center Party faction in Riigikoga filed two bills to the parliamentary production on Monday, the purpose of which is to bring the autonalog in line with the principles of the constitution, as well as take into account the recommendations of the Chancellor of the Law voiced last week, writes BNS.

Both bills provide for exemption from the annual vehicle tax. The first of them exempts from the payment of family tax, in which at least three minor children are brought up. The second provides a similar benefit to people with special needs. Liberation, according to bills, will enter into force on January 1, 2026.

The Center Party has repeatedly emphasized that she does not consider the introduced autonalog to be necessary or reasonable and continues to advocate his cancellation. According to the faction, the tax was adopted hastily, without proper analysis, and does not take into account either economic or social influence.

According to the deputy chairman of the financial commission of Riigikoga Andrei Korobeinik, the bills submitted are an important step towards protecting groups of the population, which the autonalog has the greatest influence.

“Large families and people with special needs – social groups, their possibilities of movement should not be limited in connection with the need to pay tax. If the state wants to tax movement, it must simultaneously ensure that no one is deprived of vital services or incomes, ”said Korobeinik.

He added that the current autonalogue is unfair in nature. “We see that the tax system that does not take into account the real life circumstances of people ultimately strengthens social inequality and can leave a person overboard a full life. The introduction of an autonalog can lead to large families or people with disabilities will be forced to abandon the car – especially in rural areas where there is often no developed public transport system. It is in order to reduce the tax burden on those who need relief, we introduced these bills to parliamentary production, ”the deputy said.

The Center Party considers it important that Riigikogu considers the proposed changes on the merits, promptly and in accordance with the constitution and hopes that the ruling coalition is ready to draw practical conclusions from criticism of the Chancellor of Justice.
