The resolution on Macedonia, which was voted by the Bulgarian Parliament, is offensive and with it from the start disables a joint step through dialogue, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said today.

She expects the European Parliament (EP) to support a resolution that guarantees the Macedonian identity and the Macedonian language. Otherwise, as he pointed out, answering journalist questions, it will speak very badly about the democratic capacity of the EP.

Siljanovska Davkova still cannot specify whether at the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague will meet with his Bulgarian counterpart.

-This is another, there have been several resolutions, memorandums and everyone is referring to them. Of course, it is offensive to do such a thing because at the start you disable the common step through dialogue. The essence of the preamble in the Good Neighborhood and Friendship Agreement is to help. You can help someone with understanding. I think it’s wrong. Of course, in another country now the same declaration in parliament would follow, but I think the arguments we bring, although many say we have not done anything in this period, I claim that there was no president, minister, prime minister I was sitting with, and I had not explained our positions but not through our constitution. If they are not respected, then the EU cannot be a philosophy because philosophy, which Mr. Macron would say, but also the students of Sorbonne, without respecting principles and values, without them the EU is not a political community, but a political and bureaucratic machinery. It should not be the EU and we all want to be in the EU because it is inspiring or according to the acts, and according to the action precisely in terms of the start of these principles and values - the president said.

Regarding the resolution that guarantees the Macedonian identity and the Macedonian language, Siljanovska Davkova expects to be supported in the European Parliament.

-Of course I expect support, but honestly, I didn’t expect the European Parliament to read or hear some amendments in the 21st century, imagine in the 21st century to dispute one’s identity. It is an unknown phenomenon, especially as you sit in an institution that is part of the EU in which basic, constitutive documents such as the EU Treaty, the Lisbon Treaty, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, guarantees respect for national and cultural identity, human dignity and integrity. It’s something shocking. So, I expect the resolution to be supported, because otherwise it will speak very badly about the democratic capacity of the European Parliament – said Siljanovska Davkova.

Asked about a possible meeting with Bulgarian counterpart at the NATO Summit in The Hague, he replied that he could not say exactly whether that would happen

-I can’t tell you exactly, but you understand that not only here, in Brussels or in some capitals, it is being discussed. When I was a visit to Kazakhstan I discussed these issues with many of the attendees there – the president said.

She once again urged key issues to decide with consensus, not to go out before we agree at home.
